Discover His Story →
A weaver.
A craft.
A mastery.
Suraj Suresh is a skilled handloom weaver and the proprietor of Desiweaves. Before anything else is said about him, that is the fact that matters most.
His story is not about what he cannot do. It is about what he has learned to do — thread by thread, at a loom he has made entirely his own.
Interest became learning.
Learning became skill.
With consistent support, patience and practice, Suraj mastered hand weaving one pass of the shuttle at a time. What began as an interest, through years of steady work, became a genuine craft.
Thread by thread.
Weave by weave.
Rhythm. Repetition. Focus. Precision. Patience. Colour. Movement. Creativity. On the loom, an interest turned into learning. Learning turned into practice. Practice turned into skill.
Before there is a product, there is fabric.
Before there is fabric, there is Suraj at the loom.

Your Hands
The journey continues into everyday life.
Give credit where it begins.
Suraj's journey did not end with learning to weave. His craft became the foundation for something larger. Today he is the proprietor of Desiweaves — an entrepreneur whose craftsmanship reaches customers through products valued for quality, authenticity and design.
Autism is part of Suraj's life.
It is not the limit of his identity.
His story is not about asking what he cannot do — it is about recognising what he can do. Suraj's journey shows what becomes possible when individual abilities are recognised, interests are nurtured and real opportunities are created.
The vision is not just inclusion.
It is opportunity.
Dr. Jaichitra's vision extends beyond Suraj's own success. She wants Desiweaves to grow into a sustainable, inclusive enterprise — one that creates vocational and employment opportunities for more adults with autism and other developmental disabilities.
Suraj's parents have been the constant force behind his journey.
Dr. P. K. Suresh & Dr. Jaichitra Suresh
Dr. P. K. Suresh is a Professor at the Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT), Vellore, with an accomplished academic and research career in Biosciences and Biotechnology. Dr. Jaichitra Suresh, a Physician and Diabetologist, has extensive experience in Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Diabetes Care, Geriatric and Palliative Care. She is also the founder of Soukya Clinic and Home Healthcare.
While both built demanding professional careers, their greatest priority remained helping Suraj discover his own abilities. They chose not to define him by what he could not do. Instead, they focused on what he could do, what he enjoyed, and what gave him a sense of purpose. When Suraj discovered handloom weaving, they encouraged him to pursue it with seriousness, dignity and confidence. Their support helped transform a skill into a vocation — and eventually, a vocation into Desiweaves.
